The Hope parliamentary faction, comprising government backers and reformists, lends a hand to President Hassan Rouhani’s reelection bid in the May 19 vote.
Bahram Parsaei, the faction’s spokesman, made the announcement to IRNA on Sunday, saying the decision is aimed at ensuring maximum voter turnout.
“In a morning meeting of the faction, it was decided that one or two members in each province cooperate with the provincial campaign offices of Rouhani,” he said.
The campaign season for six hopefuls cleared to run for president by the election watchdog Guardians Council started on Friday.
Rouhani’s election campaign office is headed by Mohammad Shariatmadari, his former vice president for executive affairs who resigned from the government for this purpose. The campaigns must end 24 hours before the voting begins.
