Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari highlighted the deep ties between Tehran and Baghdad, and lauded Iran’s support for Iraq’s counter-terrorism campaign.
“Iran is on top of countries that have helped Iraq in the battle against the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group,” Jaafari said in a meeting with Iraj Masjedi, Iran’s new ambassador to the Arab country, Tasnim News Agency reported citing al-Forat news agency.
He thanked the Islamic Republic for its stances, humanitarian assistance and security support for Iraq in the fight against the terrorist group.
Jaafari also underlined Baghdad’s resolve to forge good ties with neighboring countries and restore security and stability to the region, calling for more efforts to enhance mutual collaboration in all fields.
Masjedi voiced Iran’s willingness to expand ties with Iraq and said he would do his best during his term to boost bilateral cooperation.
