Iran's Interior Ministry has released the final list of candidates qualified to run in the May 19 presidential election.
According to Interior Ministry 's press release, Iran’s Guardian Council has approved the qualification of Hassan Rouhani, Es'haq Jahangiri, Ebrahim Raeisi, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, Mostafa Hashemi-Taba, and Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim for the upcoming election.
The qualified candidates can now start campaigning until May 18.
The council started the process to screen 1,636 nominees registered for the May 19 presidential election on Sunday.
"We held the final session on screening the qualifications of the presidential election nominees today and fortunately reached a conclusion after five days of numerous sessions,” the council's spokesman, Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei, said before releasing the final list.
The council oversees all elections, except the city council vote that is supervised by the parliament.
Iran will simultaneously hold the 12th presidential election and the 5th City and Village Councils Elections on May 19.
