A lawmaker said combating terrorism and restoring security to the region remain one of the major policies of Iran.
One of the most important policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to continue its serious fight against the ominous phenomenon of terrorism in the region, Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a speech at a ceremony in Tehran on Wednesday marking Pakistan’s National Day, Tasnim News Agency reported. A number of Iranian and foreign officials, including the ambassadors of Russia, Ecuador, Syria, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iraq and Cuba, were present at the event. The Iranian official hoped for sustainable peace and security in the Middle East, calling on the US to, instead of dropping bombs, send a message of peace and friendship and help enhance security in the volatile region. In addition, Boroujerdi described Iran-Pakistan ties as “historical” and stressed that the two neighboring countries have inseparable bonds. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Asif Durrani also addressed the conference and said Tehran and Islamabad share a common stance on regional developments, hoping for the daily strengthening of the two nations’ ties.
