Deputy Foreign Ministers Abbas Araqchi and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held separate meetings with visiting Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Lapo Pistelli on late Wednesday, according to a press release by the foreign ministry. Araqchi pointed to the nuclear talks between Iran and the major powers and said, “The way has been paved to a great extent for reaching an agreement, and if the western side is determined to reach a mutual agreement, the ground is prepared more than ever.”  The Italian official, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far in the nuclear negotiations and said the talks indicated the fact that “dialogue can be an appropriate model for mutual cooperation on regional and international issues.” He said the current talks have presented a “historic opportunity” to reach a comprehensive agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program.  Amir-Abdollahian and Pistelli also discussed the latest regional developments and the campaign against terrorism and extremism in the region.
