Int’l Drive to Combat Terrorism Underlined

Iran on Monday strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Russia’s Saint Petersburg metro station and renewed its call for organizing a joint global campaign against terrorism.

Condemning the attack, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims, Tasnim News Agency reported.

“We once again remind the necessity of making joint international efforts for seriously confronting terrorism regardless of motivations behind it and believe that there is no way to eradicate these violent crimes except through the serious resolve and determination of all states and international bodies,” he said. Russian police are hunting for two suspects in the wake of a bomb blast in the St Petersburg metro system that killed at least 11 people and wounded 45 more. An unidentified explosive device went off on a train after leaving Sennaya Ploshchad station and heading to the Technology Institute station, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorist Committee said. Russian security agencies found and defused a second explosive device at the Ploschad Vosstaniya station, one of the city’s busiest stations, the committee added.
