Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted the ample opportunities for cooperation with Latvia, noting that apart from the two governments, their private sectors should also enhance interactions based on mutual interest.

In a meeting with Latvian Foreign Ministry's State Secretary Andrejs Pildegovics in Tehran on Monday, Zarif hailed the progress in relations between Tehran and Riga, saying the private sectors of the two countries should exploit the opportunities in various fields, Tasnim News Agency reported.

"Iran and Latvia can promote cooperation in agriculture and transportation industries," he said.

The Latvian official said his country's companies are eager to work in close cooperation with Iran in transportation, as Iran is located on the north-south corridor linking Europe to the Indian Ocean.

In June 2016, heading a 60-strong delegation of Iranian businesspeople, Zarif traveled to Latvia as part of a tour that also took him to Poland, Finland and Sweden.

In Riga, the top Iranian diplomat held talks with Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis on closer ties in the political, parliamentary, trade and tourism fields.
