Parliamentary Team Attends IPU Assembly

An Iranian parliamentary delegation arrived in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Saturday to attend the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union assembly meeting.

The Iranian team comprises seven lawmakers, including two women, Tasnim News Agency reported.

In the first event on the sidelines of the conference on Saturday, two Iranian lawmakers participated in the forum of women parliamentarians of IPU.

The 136th IPU assembly and related meetings will continue until April 5.

Established in 1889, IPU is the international organization of world parliaments. The union is the focal point for worldwide parliamentary dialogue and works for peace and cooperation for the establishment of democracy around the globe.

The IPU assembly is the principal statutory body that expresses the union’s views on political issues.

Delegations attending IPU assemblies customarily include members of parliament from all parties. The assembly convenes biannually in spring and autumn.
