Iran’s capacity in defensive arms industry has significantly increased in the current Iranian year (ending March 20), Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan said.
Speaking at a meeting of Defense Ministry officials on Wednesday, Dehqan hailed advances made in the current Iranian year, announcing a “45-fold increase” in the capacity of defense industries in the sphere of ordnance and weaponry.
He pointed to the production of Emad and Zolfaqar missiles, inauguration of the first domestically developed turbojet engine, Matla’ol-Fajr radar, homegrown Saba-248 helicopter and Karrar tank, as the highlights of the Defense Ministry’s activities this year, Tasnim News Agency reported.
The defense minister also hailed the ministry’s success in developing military cooperation with foreign countries, referring to the full implementation of a contract with Russia on the purchase of S-300 air defense missile system and signing defense agreements with China, Oman, South Africa and Iraq.
