Economic Achievements Highlighted

President Hassan Rouhani cited market stability, rise in exports, restrained inflation and strong economic growth as his government's achievements in the economic sphere.

The chief executive made the comment in a meeting with members of the Hope parliamentary faction, a bloc grouping his backers and allied reformists, in Tehran on Monday, a day after he gained the pro-reform camp's endorsement for his reelection.

Rouhani said the government has made great strides toward the implementation of Resistance Economy as evidenced by the country's resilience in the face of a sharp drop in oil price as the mainstay of Iran's foreign currency earnings.

Resistance Economy is a concept promoted by the Leader of Islamic Revolution, which calls for measures to boost domestic production and improve productivity by reducing overreliance of oil revenues.

The president said the economy grew by over 7% in the current Iranian year, which ends March 20, adding that oil exports averaged 2.6 million barrels per day in this period.

In a press conference on the same day, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani acknowledged government's efforts to revive the economy after the removal of sanctions under the 2015 nuclear deal, stressing that in some economic fields, especially energy and agriculture, considerable progress has been made.
