The peace talks will be attended by high-ranking officials from Russia, Turkey and Iran, the ministry said in a press statement.

Invitations have also been sent to the representatives of the UN, the US and Jordan, Xinhua reported.

The meeting brings together delegations from the Syrian government and Syrian armed opposition, the statement added.

Two rounds of international meeting took place on Jan. 23-24 and Feb. 15-16 in Astana. A technical meeting of experts was held on Feb. 6. Delegations from Russia, Iran and Turkey, representatives of Syrian government and the opposition parties, as well as representatives of the UN, the US and Jordan attended the meetings.

The coordination of efforts on monitoring the ceasefire in Syria, which allowed the parties to discuss the two sides’ political agenda, was the main outcome of these meetings.

The Astana peace talks are held in addition to the UN-brokered Geneva process and in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 in 2015.
