Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan announced on Monday that a state-of-the-art naval cruise missile has been deployed in an ongoing military maneuver staged by the Navy in the country’s southern waters.
“Iran’s latest naval cruise missile dubbed “Nasir” was successfully used in the Navy’s wargame,” Dehqan said on Monday, Tasnim News Agency reported.
According to the minister, during the large-scale military drills codenamed “Velayat 95”, the naval forces test-fired the Nasir missile and successfully hit the target.
The last phase of the Velayat 95 wargame, which began on Sunday in a vast maritime zone, continued on Monday.
The drills cover an area of 2 million square kilometers, stretching from the Strait of Hormuz and Oman Sea to the north of the Indian Ocean and Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
A range of naval equipment is utilized in the exercises, including indigenous submarines and helicopters. The previous phases of the exercise were held in 2016.
