Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari held separate meetings with the Russian president’s special envoy on Syria and the Arab country’s ambassador to the UN ahead of the peace talks in the Kazakh capital, Astana.
The Iranian and Russian delegations headed by Ansari and Alexander Lavrentiev respectively held talks on the prolonged Syrian crisis in Astana on Tuesday afternoon, Tasnim News Agency reported.
The meeting focused on latest developments in Syria and arrangements to uphold a ceasefire in the war-hit country and hold the second round of Astana talks.
In another session held late Tuesday, Ansari met Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria’s ambassador to the UN, and exchanged views about the agenda of the upcoming Astana talks.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry on Wednesday announced that the beginning of the second round of Astana talks on Syria has been postponed from Wednesday to Thursday.
The discussions were to take place on February 15 and 16.
The first round of the negotiations was held on January 23 with the participation of delegations from the armed opposition, Damascus, Russia, Iran and Turkey.
Sputnik reported that Jordan and the US are attending the talks as observers.
