A senior law enforcement official announced elements associated with the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group have been arrested in the vicinity of Tehran, where they planned to carry out acts of sabotage on Friday.

“These individuals sought to [carry out their] plots during the Bahman 22 ceremonies,” Attorney General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri said on Friday, referring to events marking the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Press TV reported.

Montazeri outlined Iran’s support for anti-terror operations beyond its borders, particularly in Syria and Iraq, and said intelligence reports showed IS had devised plans to conduct acts of terror inside Iran.

The attorney general added that further information on the plots of these nabbed IS operatives would be revealed in the next few days. Montazeri noted that if the resistance front, supported by Iran, had not stood up against terrorists, IS would have reached the country’s borders.

“Know that if you do not tackle the enemy outside the country and beyond the borders, it will arrive at your gates,” he said.
