Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari held talks with visiting UN Special Representative for Iraq Jan Kubis on a range of issues, including the latest efforts to restore stability to the Arab country. In the meeting in Tehran on Monday, Kubis briefed Ansari on the latest situation in Iraq and challenges facing the country. The UN official described the fight against terrorism as the main priority of all Iraqi sides, Tasnim News Agency reported. Kubis highlighted the tribal diversity of Iraq and stressed the need to preserve unity among all political and ethnic groups. The Iranian diplomat expressed concern over the spread of terrorism and said the phenomenon is the main problem of Iraq, the region and the world. Ansari underlined the importance of strengthening the central government of Iraq and preserve unity and territorial integrity of the Arab country. Over the past few years, Iraq has faced the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group.
