Iranian Ambassador in Baghdad Hassan Danaeifar renewed Tehran’s support for the Iraqi government and nation in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

“I reaffirm Tehran’s support for Baghdad in the campaign against terrorist groups,” he said in a meeting with Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad on Sunday, Fars News Agency reported.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest security situation and the anti-terror war in Iraq as well as the recent victories of Iraq’s joint military forces in Nineveh Province. In a meeting in the Iraqi capital earlier this month, Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi and Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari discussed bilateral ties and regional developments.

The two underlined the need for political solutions to regional issues, especially the crises gripping Iraq and Syria.

“The two countries have strategic and important relations,” Boroujerdi said at the time. The Iraqi foreign minister said Tehran and Baghdad are on the right track of broadening mutual cooperation.
