A special committee of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly tasked with making preparations for the formation of an Asian parliament will convene in Pakistan in the near future.

APA Secretary-General Mohammad Reza Majidi made the announcement in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, IRNA reported.  APA was born in 2006 at the Seventh Session of the Association of Asian Parliamentary for Peace, which was founded in 1999. The body comprises 42 member parliaments and 16 observers and has 10 partner organizations. Its secretariat is based in Tehran. The assembly lays out a framework of cooperation among Asian countries, pointing out to the vision of Asian integration, the APA official website says.

It aims to promote peace, reconciliation and dialogue in Asia. The Ninth Plenary Session of the APA was held in Cambodia from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2 last year.
