President Hassan Rouhani has said the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are keen to have better relations with Iran in all areas, especially the economic sphere.
Rouhani made the remarks on Friday night upon arrival in Tehran after a five-day tour of Central Asia, which took him to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, where he attended the 14th SCO summit.
The president expressed hope that the results of his tour will be beneficial for the people of Iran and other countries in the region, IRNA reported.
Commenting on his talks with high-ranking officials of SCO member states on the sidelines of the Dushanbe summit, Rouhani said bilateral relations and a range of international and regional issues were discussed during the meetings.
Pointing to a planned railroad connecting Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran, he said it is likely that the project will be completed in coming months, adding the railroad will improve the situation of the south-to-north corridor for transporting goods.
The SCO is a political, economic and military organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Iran has observer status in the organization.
