Greetings to New Ghanaian President

President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Nana Akufo-Addo on his victory in Ghana's presidential elections. On Saturday, Rouhani issued a congratulatory message to Akufo-Addo, felicitating him on winning Ghana's presidential race, Tasnim News Agency reported. Stressing Tehran's willingness to have close and friendly ties with Ghana, the Iranian president hoped that Tehran-Accra relations would improve in all areas under Akufo-Addo. Akufo-Addo was to be sworn in on Saturday after beating incumbent leader John Dramani Mahama in elections last month. The 72-year-old former human rights lawyer was to take the oath of office at a ceremony at Independence Square in central Accra before more than 6,000 guests. Ghana's elections, which were held on December 7, came in the wake of an economic downturn and the nation's disenchantment with the ruling party. Seven out of 10 Ghanaians believe the country has been heading in the wrong direction, according to the Ghana Center for Democratic Development.
