Abe’s Envoy to Visit Soon

Masahiko Komura, the former Japanese foreign minister and current vice president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, will visit Iran next Tuesday as the special envoy of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for talks with top officials, Japan’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday. During his three-day visit, Komura is scheduled to exchange views on developments on the global scene, including Tehran’s 2015 landmark nuclear deal with six major world powers (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany), the ministry was quoted as saying by Kyodo News. The visit comes amid questions over the deal’s future after US president-elect, Donald Trump, promised during his election campaign to scrap or renegotiate the deal, calling it “disastrous”.
