Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said not only Iran's scientific progress should not be slowed or stopped, but its contribution to global scientific advances should also increase.
The Leader made the statement in a meeting with a group of winners of international science Olympiads, elites and professors of Sharif University of Technology in Tehran on Monday, his official website reported.
Ayatollah Khamenei also said scientific power alone cannot make a nation prosperous.
"Scientific progress combined with the noble spiritual and revolutionary ideals will pave the way for prosperity and make Iran an example for the region, the Muslim countries and the world," he said.
The Leader stated that lack of spirituality is the reason behind shortcomings in western societies and cracks in the foundations of western civilization, despite their huge material advancements, while pointing to widespread violence, moral corruption, disintegration of families and the high rate of suicides in their communities.
Ayatollah Khamenei said "real commitment to religious and revolutionary aspirations is required for a country's real progress", and it deserves special attention in all fields, including economy, politics and science, and in the management of the country and appointment of state managers.
