Iran's Guardians Council Spokesman Abbasali Kadkhodaei hailed a United Nations Security Council resolution on a nationwide ceasefire in Syria, saying it proves the influential role of "the resistance front" in the council's decision-making. "The passage of the recent UN Security Council resolution on a ceasefire in Syria shows the resistance [front's] influence on the council's decision-making," Kadkhodaei said in a post on the social media cited by Tasnim News Agency. The UNSC on Saturday unanimously passed the resolution, which was drafted by Russia to endorse the Syrian ceasefire. UNSC members welcomed the agreements reached through the mediation of Iran, Russia and Turkey, and stressed the importance of its "full and immediate implementation." They also stressed that they see the upcoming Astana meeting as an important step toward the resolution of the Syrian conflict. The UN body reaffirmed its commitment to the "sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic" and reiterated that the only way to resolve the Syrian crisis is to begin a complex intra-Syrian political process.
