A lawmaker dismissed recent allegations by Jordanian military officials that Iran is interfering in the internal affairs of the region's conflict-stricken countries, saying it would never take an indifferent approach to the situation in those countries.
"No country can ever be indifferent to developments and crises happening around it and this should not be interpreted as intervention," Massoud Goudarzi said in an interview with ICANA on Sunday.
"It is public knowledge that many countries play a role in the Syrian and Iraqi conflicts, so the Islamic Republic cannot be indifferent, especially toward the crisis in Iraq, which is one of its important neighbors," he stressed.
Iranian military officers advise Shia forces known as Hashd Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Units, in the Iraqi campaign for driving out the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group that has attacked and captured parts of Iraq and neighboring Syria.
Iran, along with Russia, has been a principal ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in his country's six-year-old civil war, while Persian Gulf Arab states and western powers have supported various militant factions.
