Iranian security and armed forces thwart 15 to 20 terrorist attempts and threats every year, a senior military official said. "The enemy never stops its hostility and annually, 15 to 20 cases of terrorist threats, including suicide and blast attempts and the like, are identified and defused in the country and these [threats] sometimes increase to 30 cases a year," Lieutenant General Seyyed Morteza Mirian, a senior official at the office of the chairman of the General Staff of the Armed Forces said. Mirian made the statement in an interview with state television on Friday, Fars News Agency reported.  His remarks came after Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari announced earlier this month that security forces have dismantled a terrorist cell that planned to carry out sabotage acts inside Iran. "Recently, a three-member terror team that sought to enter the country via western borders was identified … and after tracking the terrorist cell, it was dismantled by security and intelligence forces," Zolfaqari said at the time.
