Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi said Iran is resolved to expand ties with the Latin American countries and the same intention is seen on the other side. He made the remarks in a ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Iran-Mexico diplomatic relations attended by Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos de Icaza in Tehran on Saturday, the Mehr news agency reported.
The diplomats unveiled a stamp marking the relationship between the two countries during the ceremony. Referring to long-standing bilateral relations, Takht-Ravanchi said great steps have been taken to promote relations with Mexico.
“The two countries share many common grounds which can help enhance relations.”
He also said, “Iran and Mexico have inked a comprehensive agreement embracing relations in economic, cultural, scientific and academic areas.”
Takht-Ravanchi reiterated that improving relations with Latin American countries is of major importance to the administration of Hassan Rouhani.
The visiting Mexican official said there are great opportunities to enhance economic and cultural ties, adding the two sides are scheduled to hold more talks to reach a broad agreement in this regard.
De Icaza also held separate meetings with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to the Leader, on Saturday.
