The Iranian Air Defense Base is to begin a large-scale exercise in the country’s southern areas today. Speaking at a press conference in the southern port city of Bushehr on Sunday, Air Defense Commander Lieutenant General Farzad Esmaeili said the extensive drill, code-named Defenders of Velayat Skies 7, will last for five days, Tasnim News Agency reported. According to the commander, the exercise will cover the provinces of Hormozgan, Bushehr and Khuzestan.

“Various Air Defense units and Air Force fighter jets are planned to take part in the war game,” he added.

Iran’s Air Defense Base holds routine military exercises throughout the year. The country’s integrated air defense network protects 3,700 sensitive sites across the country, including nuclear facilities.
