Singaporean Parliament Speaker Halimah Yacob has called for expansion of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Singapore.

She made the remarks in a meeting with members of Iran-Singapore parliamentary friendship group on Monday.  The group headed by Gholamreza Mesbahi Moqaddam arrived in Singapore to hold talks with political and parliamentary officials of the Southeast Asian country, IRNA reported.

Referring to the negotiations between Iran and the major powers on Tehran's nuclear program, Yacob expressed hope that the talks would yield positive results leading to the removal of all sanctions imposed on Iran.

She touched on the keen interest of Singaporean business leaders to trade with Iran and said the lifting of sanctions will pave the way for increasing wide-ranging cooperation between the two states.  Elsewhere, she said tourism offers a "valuable opportunity" for greater cultural and economic cooperation, expressing her country's readiness for active collaboration in the field.

Mesbahi Moqaddam, for his part, elaborated on the foreign policy priorities of the current administration in Iran and described frequent visits by foreign business and political delegations and tourist groups to the country as a part of the government's achievements.
