The Iranian Army has launched large-scale military drills in the southeast to enhance the combat readiness of its ground forces. Codenamed “Muhammad Rasoulallah [Muhammad, the Messenger of God (PBUH)] Four”, the three-day military maneuvers started early Sunday in the strategic southeastern parts of the country, covering an area of 220,000 square kilometers, Press TV reported.

General Seyyed Kamal Peyambari, the maneuver’s spokesman, said the first day of the maneuvers is focused on practicing the transfer of rapid reaction units via ground and air from across the country to operation zones. “The enlisted units will also display their efficacy and work to enhance their readiness in responding to operational requirements and threats,” he said.

General Peyambari said testing new defense systems, reducing the average response time to potential threats and training younger commanders in modern battles are among other goals of the drills.

Various units of the Army’s Ground Forces are participating in the maneuvers, enjoying logistical support from the Army’s Air Force and the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base.
