President Hassan Rouhani said any attempt by any country to undermine the implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and major powers should be blocked.

The pact was reached between Iran and P5+1 (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany) and went into force in January to lift international sanctions in return for scaling down Tehran’s nuclear program.

“No country should be allowed to act on its selfish desire to harm the agreement,” the president was quoted as saying by IRNA in a meeting with Russia’s special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, in Tehran on Saturday.

“Iran has and will always honor its international commitments and a durable JCPOA requires all P5+1 members to hold their own side of the deal as well.”

Rouhani was using the abbreviation that stands for the formal title of the accord, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Lavrentiev reaffirmed Moscow’s “firm and unwavering” stance to ensure the effective implementation of the action plan.
