Iran’s Ambassador in Moscow Mehdi Sanaei underlined that Tehran and Moscow have boosted cooperation in the war on terrorism.
“Terrorist groups pose a threat to the entire world and cooperation between Tehran and Moscow is aimed at thwarting the heinous phenomenon in the region,” Sanaei told reporters on Friday.
The ambassador voiced his satisfaction with the status quo of Iran-Russia diplomatic relations, and said ties between the two countries can be expanded through better planning, Fars News Agency reported.
Sanaei pointed to the region’s unfavorable security conditions and said Tehran and Moscow, as two “strategic allies”, support the legitimate government in Syria and its ongoing fight against the terrorist groups.
In relevant remarks in mid-November, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Russian Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need for increasing bilateral cooperation in fighting international terrorism.
