President Hassan Rouhani looked forward to enhancement of relations with Romania, in view of the good record of ties and the political will on both sides. In a message to his Romanian counterpart, Klaus Iohannis, on Thursday, Rouhani congratulated the people and government of Romania on the European country's national day, Tasnim News Agency reported. Hailing the record of bilateral relations and the existing political will, the Iranian president hoped for expansion of Tehran-Bucharest relations in the political, economic and cultural spheres. Romania's National Day, known as the Great Union Day, falls on December 1. It commemorates the assembly of the delegates of ethnic Romanians held in Alba Iulia in 1918. In November, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid a visit to Romania and signed two memorandums of understanding with his Romanian counterpart after a round of diplomatic talks. The top Iranian diplomat also held a meeting with Romania's Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos and discussed closer bilateral cooperation in fields ranging from energy to banking.
