Naval forces on Sunday thwarted an attempt by pirates to hijack an Iranian tanker in the Gulf of Aden, ISNA quoted the commander of the navy as saying on Monday. Naval warships, which are on a mission in the region, dispatched commandos to help the tanker that was confronted by two pirate boats, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said. The commandos inflicted heavy losses on the pirates and forced them to flee, he added.
