A foreign affairs advisor to the parliament speaker reiterated Iran’s firm determination to continue to support Syria’s campaign against terrorism and called on sponsors of terrorist groups operating in the region to review their policies. “We will powerfully continue our support for Syria’s fight against terrorism and for the attainment of a political solution [to the crisis in Syria],” Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a meeting with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in Tehran on Tuesday, Fars News Agency reported. He referred to field developments in Syria and said, “Supporters of terrorist groups in the region need to revise their policies and they should come to realize that continuing the present trend will not only harm them and all the regional states, but also seriously endanger international peace and security.” Amir-Abdollahian referred to US policies on Syria and the influence of the US presidential election on Washington’s approach and said, “The Americans seek to exert more pressure on Syria during the tenure of the new president, as they don’t grasp the realities on the ground.”
