Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari called on the international community to help resolve the Syrian crisis.

"The deterioration of the humanitarian situation has alarmed humanity. The international community must respect the commitment to alleviate the sufferings of the Syrian people caused by terrorism," Ansari was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency on Wednesday.

"Regretfully, we are now witnessing the instrumental use of terrorism as well as double standard polices adopted by certain states and international organizations on the Syrian crisis," he said.

Ansari also announced that the European Union has sought Iran's help to deliver humanitarian assistance to Syria.

"From the early stages of the humanitarian crisis, the Islamic Republic of Iran independently and through Iran's Red Crescent Society supplied relief aid to the needy people trapped in this crisis," he said.

In addition, the senior diplomat noted that upon a proposal by the Swiss government, a trilateral cooperation framework among Iran, Syria and Switzerland has been formed to provide humanitarian assistance to the war-torn Arab country.

In relevant remarks on Monday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in Tehran underlined the need for continuing cooperation among Tehran, Damascus and Moscow to resolve the Syria crisis.

During the meeting, Zarif reiterated that the three countries should continue consultations on the Syrian crisis, especially the conditions of Aleppo, which is now the scene of intense fighting between government forces and militants.

The Syrian diplomat thanked Iran for its principled stance on regional issues, Syria in particular.

Mekdad said Iran is in the front line of war against terrorism and extremism, and called for increasing bilateral exchanges.

In late October, top diplomats from Iran, Russia and Syria convened in Moscow to discuss coordinated efforts to fight against terrorism in Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hosted his Iranian and Syrian counterparts in Moscow on October 28 to confer on ways of accelerating anti-terrorism efforts in Syria.
