A top military aide to the Leader of Islamic Revolution cautioned the Barzani ruling family in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq against giving a green light to Saudis for arming anti-Iranian groups in the region.

“We warn the Barzanis [against] permitting the Saudi consulates in northern Iraq to supply weapons to [anti-Iran groups],” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said at a press conference on Monday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Reminding the Iraqi Kurds of their Aryan origin and Iranian roots, the general said the Barzani family should not forget that “they are indebted to Iran”.

“The Iraqi Kurds should be mindful that if they enter political games against Iran, then they should not expect any more help from Tehran,” he said.

Masoud Barzani, president of Kurdistan Regional Government, in a visit to Tehran in 2014, had expressed gratitude to Iran for standing by the Iraqi Kurdistan and its people in hard days.
