Talks With US Not to Solve Problems

Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei criticized those who are floating the idea that for the country to effectively address its current problems, it has to come to terms with US hegemonic policies.

"Negotiations with America would not solve our problems, but would rather increase them," Ayatollah Khamenei was quoted as saying by his official website.

He made the statements in a meeting with students in Tehran on Wednesday, ahead of the anniversary of the 1979 US Embassy takeover by Iranian students on Nov. 4. It is named the National Day of Struggle Against Global Arrogance.

"Can you expect an enemy that spares no effort to advance its hostile policy against the Iranian nation to solve our national problems?" he asked rhetorically.

The Leader said upholding the values and principles of the Islamic Revolution and promoting "the revolutionary thinking and spirit" are key to the resolution of problems facing the country.

"The Islamic Republic's struggle against the hegemonic system, embodied by the United States, is driven by logic and reason," he said.

He went on to cite reasons for the Islamic Republic's adoption and insistence on the anti-US stance since its foundation by the late Imam Khomeini.

"The US hegemonic government has been pursuing a policy of greed and excessive demands, which it has advocated for years in various parts of the world, particularly West Asia and pre-revolution Iran," he said.

"If [Imam Khomeini] had failed to stand against America, the enemy [the US] that had been driven out from the door would have reentered through the window."

Ayatollah Khamenei said the recently revealed scandals during the ongoing US presidential race between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton indicate that human values are lacking in the US ruling system.
