A high-ranking Danish lawmaker reaffirmed the need for regular consultations between the European Union and Iran over international developments and efforts to restore peace to West Asia.

Chairman of Foreign Policy Committee of the Danish Parliament Soren Espersen made the statement in a Monday meeting with Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, ICANA reported.

Espersen hailed the growing economic cooperation between Tehran and Copenhagen, saying that “[frequent] visits by Danish officials, parliamentarians and businessmen to Iran show a strong will to forge and strengthen connections with Iran.”

The Danish lawmaker pointed to Iran’s role in efforts to fight terrorism and settle conflicts in the region, saying, “The Danish government and parliament welcome bilateral cooperation to fight drug trafficking and terrorism”.

Larijani said Iran attaches high importance to close dialogue between Iran and the EU to help develop economic cooperation, remove obstacles to interactions between Iranian and European banks and the fight drug trafficking.

The Majlis speaker said parliamentary diplomacy can help strengthen bonds of friendship between the Iranian and Danish nations and governments.
