Iran's top diplomat said adhering to ideals of the Islamic Revolution of 1979 is behind the country's undeniable influence across the region and the world.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the statement in an address to a conference of Iranian military attaches and representatives in foreign countries in Tehran on Sunday.

"International circumstances have put the Islamic Republic of Iran in such an excellent position ... that as the leading regional power, [it] has undeniable influence on developments in the region and the world," IRNA quoted Zarif as saying.

"In the current situation, there is a possibility of developing the power of Islamic Iran into a long-term institutionalized influence in the international arena, "he said.

"We are in a tense, sensitive and decisive period that the Leader [of Islamic Revolution] has described as a 'critical historical turn', getting through which requires attention, carefulness, recognition of threats, trust and dependence on local capabilities, including the military and economic [potential], and above all, the original Islamic and revolutionary beliefs."
