Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the campaign against terrorism requires the international community's true resolve.

He made the statement in a meeting with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto in Tehran on Wednesday, according to his official website.

Ayatollah Khamenei said terrorism is a "painful plight" facing the global community.

"Countering terrorism needs a serious will on the part of all those who wield influence with global powers. The world's conscientious statesmen, governments and powers should put their heads together and take measures to find a cure for the scourge," he said.

The Leader stressed that the US and some of its allies are not serious about their campaign against terrorism.

"These governments make their calculations only based on their own interests and have no intention to eradicate terrorism, whether in Iraq or Syria," he said.

On the Islamic Republic's policy on the Syria crisis, Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran has adopted a "rational" stance on the issue and is backing the legal government in Damascus and the Arab country's people, as opposed to the approach pursued by the US and its allies to insist on a change of government.

The Finnish president underlined the "role and clout" of the Islamic Republic in the region and said Tehran can be a key contributor to international efforts to curb terrorism.
