Fresh Iran-EU Talks Within Weeks

A new round of high-level talks between Iran and the European Union on bilateral relations will be held in the coming weeks. The talks will be held in the EU capital Brussels, Belgium, which Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi will attend at the head of an Iranian delegation while Helga Schmid, the EU deputy foreign policy chief, will lead the European delegation, ISNA reported on Sunday. The first round of high-level Iran-EU talks was held in Tehran in February at the level of deputy foreign ministers. The consultations are held at six-month intervals in Tehran and Brussels, covering various issues of mutual interest, including energy, transportation, environment, human rights and anti-drug campaign. They came as part of an agreement between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Federica Mogherini, the EU foreign policy chief, to help broaden relations in July 2015, days after the conclusion of a nuclear deal between Iran and world powers to remove international sanctions on Iran in exchange for temporary curbs on its nuclear program.
