The new Iranian ambassador in Tirana met Albanian President Bujar Nishani on Tuesday.  In the meeting to receive Gholamhossein Mohammadnia’s letter of credentials, Nishani called Iran a great country with a rich culture and history. “Economic and Cultural exchanges between the two countries are of great value to Albania,” he said. Nishani asked the Iranian diplomat to convey his warm wishes to his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, and emphasized that both nations should be encouraged to become familiar with each other’s culture and heritage, IRNA reported. Mohammadnia said Iranian authorities are interested in the expansion of ties with Albania in cultural, political and economic areas. “I pledge to actively try to help deepen and broaden Tehran-Tirana relations,” he said. The Iranian envoy named the Albanian eminent poet Naim Frasheri, who has written poems in Persian, as an example that needs to be known to Iranians. Pointing to the 24-year presence of Iranian diplomatic missions in Albania, Mohammadnia hoped that Tirana will open its embassy in Iran to further facilitate cooperation between the two sides.
