A member of the Majlis presiding board says it is the Islamic Republic’s “principled strategy” to expand friendly relations with eastern countries, including Vietnam. Hossein Sobhaninia made the remarks in a meeting with the head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of Vietnam’s National Assembly in Hanoi on Thursday, IRNA reported. He said the two countries’ common positions on major international issues, such as foreign intervention in regional issues and the campaign against terrorism, have paved the way for increasing political cooperation between Tehran and Hanoi at the international level. Elsewhere, he said increased bilateral economic and commercial ties can facilitate the progress of the two countries and help promote security and peace in the Asian continent. On the latest developments in the Middle East, especially in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, he said the rise of terrorist groups in the region is the result of the interventionist policies of world powers, adding foreign intervention in the region has always caused tension and instability.
