President Hassan Rouhani said Iran is willing to take its relations with Ivory Coast to a higher level, as strengthening Africa ties is of high importance in Iran's foreign policy. Rouhani made the statement in a meeting with Ivory Coast's Foreign Minister Abdallah Toikeusse Mabri in Tehran on Monday, according to the official website of Iran's Presidential Office.

"Iran and Ivory Coast have immense potential for expanding mutual cooperation," he said. "By identifying opportunities, they should take steps to bring about a transformation in bilateral relations."

Pointing to Iran's progress in technical and engineering fields in recent years, Rouhani said Iran is ready to assist Ivory Coast in building power plants, dams and roads. The president also touched on the scourge of terrorism, saying all countries should work to counter the common threat.

Rouhani said Iran has suffered a lot from terrorism and is ready to take every possible measure to help those who want to battle the scourge.

Mabri said his country is determined to develop cooperation with Iran, particularly in economic fields.

The foreign minister said the establishment of a joint economic commission between the two countries could greatly help accelerate expansion of relations.

He stressed the need for the contribution of all countries to the anti-terror efforts, saying the development and prosperity of countries lie in peace and security.

Mabri also met Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Saturday, during a visit to Iran at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart.
