An Algerian diplomatic source disclosed that his country has proposed that Iran and Saudi Arabia deploy peacekeeping troops from neutral Arab states in Yemen to end the war.

Anadolu Agency quoted a source in the Algerian Foreign Ministry as saying on Saturday that the country has proposed that Iran and Saudi Arabia recruit forces from countries that do not play a role in Yemen and form an Arab peacekeeping force to settle the crisis in the war-hit country.

“Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra in recent meetings with his Iranian and Saudi counterparts, Mohammad Javad Zarif and Adel al-Jubeir, respectively on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York has raised the proposal to decrease tensions in Yemen,” the source said.

The Iranian and Saudi officials have not yet reacted to the report yet.

Saudi Arabia has been attacking Yemen since March 2015 to restore power to fugitive president, Abd-Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed at least 10,000 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.

Despite Riyadh’s claims that it is bombing the positions of Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are destroying residential areas and civilian infrastructures.
