Visiting US Senator Was Under Watch

Jim Dabakis, a member of the Utah State Senate who visited Iran recently, was kept under surveillance by the intelligence forces during his trip, Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi told Iranian lawmakers.
Speaking to Tasnim News Agency, a lawmaker quoted Alavi as saying in a parliamentary session on Tuesday that the Intelligence Ministry keeps a close watch on all moves that could be part of hostile plots for infiltration.
As an example, the minister said, Dabakis’ recent visit to Iran was fully under control and he was indeed caught in the “intelligence web of the ministry.”
“The US senator has visited Iran twice, but his last trip was under full surveillance,” Alavi explained.
In September, KUTV, a local new agency in Salt Lake City, Utah, reported that Dabakis had returned from a summer trip to Iran.
It also quoted the senator as saying that the people of Iran were ready to mend relations with the US even if their government was not.
