IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said verification and monitoring of nuclear activities in Iran have just started and would continue for many years. “Last year, we provided a clear, factual assessment of Iran’s past nuclear activities,” Amano said in a recent IAEA conference in Vienna as cited by Big News Network.com. “The work of the agency was indispensable in paving the way for the diplomatic breakthrough achieved last year in the form of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [the official title of the July 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and major powers]. We are now verifying and monitoring Iran’s implementation of its nuclear-related commitments under that agreement.” On September 19, the UN nuclear agency once again confirmed Iran’s commitment to JCPOA. “Iran continues to implement its nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” Amano said at the time in an introductory statement to the agency’s Board of Governors. Also in a quarterly report on September 8, the IAEA confirmed Iran’s compliance with the terms of the nuclear pact.
