Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Air Force Lieutenant General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said a large number of the newly-unveiled tactical ballistic missile dubbed “Zolfaqar” will be delivered to his forces in the coming months.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, Hajizadeh said the mass production of Zolfaqar will begin by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2017) and the missiles will be delivered to the missile units of the IRGC Air Force, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He ruled out any plan to produce missiles with a range of more than 2,000 kilometers, saying the Islamic Republic has no need for such missiles.

Zolfaqar runs on solid fuel and can hit targets with pinpoint accuracy in a range of 750 kilometers.

The tactical missile is capable of evading jamming signals in electronic warfare.

Zolfaqar bears a cluster warhead capable of hitting targets on the ground.
