The spokesperson for the Combatant Clergy Association said on Tuesday that the new secretary general of the principlist group will be elected in the meeting of the association which will be held on December 2.

The candidates need two-thirds of the votes to be elected as secretary general, Hojatoleslam Gholam Reza Mesbahi Moqaddam told IRNA on Tuesday. He also said the association does not intend to make public the names of the candidates.

He added that the mechanism of electing the secretary general is similar to the mechanism of electing the chairman of the Expediency Council, meaning that no individual puts themselves forward as a candidate, but the candidates are proposed by senior members.

Former chairman of the Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, who died in hospital on October 21 after being in a coma for months, was also the secretary general the Combatant Clergy Association.
