Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman on Sunday dismissed the recent claim by the Arab League about Iran’s three Persian Gulf islands of Abu Musa, the Greater Tunb and the Lesser Tunb. “This [Arab League’s] statement is a clear instance of interference in Iran’s internal affairs and we strongly condemn such claims,” Bahram Qasemi was also quoted as saying by Fars News Agency. At the end of its 146th session in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Friday, the Arab League’s Ministerial Council issued a statement in which it claimed that the three islands belong to the UAE and expressed its support for Emirati measures to take control of the islands. Qasemi said, “The contents of the Arab League’s statement are driven by political tendencies and a lack of understanding of historical facts and realitie.” He warned that such unwise remarks will only deepen the existing division among regional countries. Qasemi underlined that Iran’s policy toward Persian Gulf Arab countries is centered on promotion of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of each other.
