Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi paid an unofficial visit to Tehran on late Sunday and held talks with President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, an informed source told IRNA. The source said the purpose of Alawi’s visit was to hold consultations with Iranian officials on bilateral relations and regional issues, including the campaign against terrorism and extremism. The visit came a week after Oman hosted three days of nuclear talks between Iran and its negotiating partners, including the Unites States and the European Union. Oman has played an intermediary role between Iran and the US since the two countries severed diplomatic relations in 1979.
